Abstract

Maintaining the plant in good condition is essential for both operational and safety reasons. Large escapes of gas or liquid from damaged vessels or piping systems have been the cause of many accidents. Chapter 20 provides a brief introduction to the management of inspection activity, including the design of the inspection programme and the recording, and analysis, of results. Common inspection requirements for different types of equipment are reviewed followed by examples of common corrosion problems. The chapter concludes with an overview of inspection techniques.
