Abstract

Whilst this book focuses on process safety, it is important to understand all the hazards that may affect personnel. Chapter 3 , therefore, provides an overview of human exposures, starting with a human “specification” before briefly discussing human factors and ergonomics then reviewing the types of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) required for everyday work activities. Chapter 3 then covers the various hazards that could affect personnel (toxic exposures and the labelling of chemicals followed by noise, vibration and ionising radiation). A short section discusses the provision of adequate lighting and, finally, the chapter concludes with a short section describing “What Can Go Wrong?” with examples.
