Abstract

Process safety and environmental protection are two sides of the same coin but are sometimes in conflict. Sources of discharge of gaseous, liquid and solid waste are considered-both from the point of view of routine emissions and the far worse releases that can occur in the event of a major accident. The importance of environmental impact assessments (EIA) is discussed, followed by a discussion of the impact of natural hazards on process plant safety. As with the two previous chapters, there is a brief discussion of “What Can Go Wrong”.
