Abstract

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is commonly used in the formulation of mortar and concrete. OPC is designed to react chemically with water to set and harden. The exposure of cement to the surrounding atmosphere during cement manufacture, handling, or storage causes the absorption of moisture from the air, which might activate premature hydration (prehydration) with subsequent development of irreversible chemical interactions of the cement with water.
