Conclusion
Abstract
This conclusion critically evaluates the transformative potential of blockchain technology in the construction sector while acknowledging the persistent challenges that constrain its adoption. It synthesises insights from the preceding chapters to highlight blockchain’s promise in enhancing transparency, automating workflows through smart contracts, improving sustainability via integration with digital twins, and enabling decentralised governance through DAOs and tokenised financing models . At the same time, it underscores the significant barriers facing the industry, including technological fragmentation, regulatory uncertainty, organisational inertia, and ethical dilemmas –particularly concerning surveillance, liability, and data governance. The conclusion argues that successful blockchain integration depends not solely on technological readiness but also on institutional maturity, cross-sector collaboration, and strategic alignment with specific project goals . It outlines five strategic imperatives for construction stakeholders: establishing robust governance frameworks, adopting an incremental use-case-led approach, investing in workforce skills, embracing consortium-based models, and embedding ethical foresight into innovation practices. Ultimately, blockchain is presented not as a panacea but as a foundational technology with profound implications for how value, trust, and data are managed in construction. The sector now faces a critical juncture: it must engage with blockchain pragmatically and ethically to build a more transparent, efficient, and future-ready built environment .
