Abstract

Several mitigating instruments are on the table, including carbon capture, storage and utilization, green energy solutions, battery and energy storage mechanisms for solar and wind power during down periods. For facing up to the triple environmental threats and the energy transition challenges, the concept of an overriding “environmental burden” refers to the sum total of what it will take to eliminate the risks of climatic, ecological and other environmental collapse. “Stickiness” and energy gaps add to the environmental burden, making a green transition more challenging.
