Abstract

Dyeing is an age-old technique that has diversified over time, adapting from conventional natural sources to advanced variants. Natural dyes extracted from various natural resources like plants, animals, and minerals have been crucial to textile colouration over time. Among them, different flowers have played a vital role in offering a wide range of dyes. Moreover, a significant increase in synthetic dyes has led to several environmental issues, driving people to shift their focus towards natural dyes. The utilization of mordants, including metallic and natural, improves the dye permanence and radiance of natural dyes, making them a reliable alternative to synthetic dyes. This chapter explores the traditional and modern use of flowers in dyeing, highlighting their importance in textile practices and the environmental benefits they provide. The study also emphasizes the various properties of natural dyes, their natural sources, and the function of mordants in amplifying dye stability. With rising awareness of eco-friendly methods, the drift towards natural dyes is expanding, unveiling prospects for sustainable textile production.
