Abstract

Precision farming using blockchain technology improves data traceability, transparency, and integrity along agri-supply chains. Blockchain technology enables the safe tracking of crops and inputs in real time during the agri-food supply chain. The study that will be covered in this chapter will focus on how blockchain technology can be used in precision agriculture to help improve transparency and traceability in agri-food supply chains. The use of blockchain technology in precision agriculture will be demonstrated using various methods, such as data storage on the blockchain, smart contract-based automated transactions, and Internet of Things sensors that track real-time data about crop yields, movement, and weather patterns at various supply chain nodes. Blockchain enhances traceability, renders data tampering difficult, and improves efficiencies along the supply chain. The use of blockchain technology actually led to heightened transparency in transactions, a capacity to trace goods in real time, and higher confidence with the stakeholders along the value chain in agriculture. Overall, blockchain facilitates precision in agriculture by providing clear, traceable, and tamper-evident agri-supply chains. The eventual effect is enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and confidence along the agri-supply chain.
