Blockchain-powered IOT for real-time agriculture monitoring and prediction
Abstract
Agriculture is an important sector, as it directly affects food supply, income generation, and climate stability. In recent years, producers have been facing numerous challenges such as quite unexpected weather conditions, shrinking arable land, and increasing pressure to produce more food responsibly. Modern technology has stepped in to address these emerging challenges, offering solutions that could make gardening more successful, intelligent, and transparent. Among the technologies that are transforming the agriculture sector are Blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT systems—consisting of sensors that measure soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and other environmental parameters—can help in gathering real-time data from the field. This data will help farmers and experts decide better about grain security, reproduction, and watering. On the security and integrity of this data, though, there are many questions. Blockchain technology offers a solution by allowing stakeholders such as farmers, buyers, agricultural experts, government agencies, and distributed ledger security against manipulation and promotes trust between them. This chapter offers a detailed study of how Blockchain and IoT taken together can offer a major contribution in monitoring agriculture and generating insights. We propose a system that uses smart contracts to automatically check the validity of data sent by sensors and then append it to the ledger. The aim is to reduce mechanical treatment, save time, generate insights for future, better use of resources, and increase accuracy in farming operations. This setup also provides an impressive way to store sensor data and prediction data and also decreases the chance of information manipulation. Based on practical execution and testing, our findings show that this method enhances the accuracy of agrarian projections. It also strengthens data protection and supports better decision-making.
