Abstract

The numerous pharmacological health advantages of beetroot ( Beta vulgaris ) and its juice are drawing a lot of attention lately. This chapter explores beetroot’s bioactive compounds’ bioavailability, oxidative stress-modulating qualities, and biological activity, emphasizing how it may prevent a number of human health issues. The potential of beetroot’s bioactive substances—such as betalains, nitrates, and antioxidants—to promote cardiovascular health, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, anti-depressant, and antimicrobial properties and combat against oxidative damage is examined. The chapter also emphasizes the ways that beetroot’s components affect oxidative stress and promote cellular longevity and protection. The latest advances in the use of beets for medicinal purposes are also highlighted by the scientists of current innovation trends, including innovative processing methods and functional formulations. This chapter offers a thorough summary of evidence demonstrating beetroot’s pharmacological relevance, establishing it as a potentially useful natural resource to aid in maintaining health and combating disease.
