Omitting Antibiotic Pollution via Novel Ecofriendly Approaches: A Green Waste Water Management
Abstract
Globally, there is an increase in the concentration of antibiotic pollution. Antibiotics were considered wonder drugs for the treatment of various infectious diseases, but they have become pervasive environmental pollutants due to their widespread usage in medical, pharmaceutical, and agricultural practices. Contamination of water bodies by antibiotic disposal not only creates a negative impact on aquatic organisms but also disrupts the balance of beneficial microflora, thus promoting microbial resistance genes. In order to mitigate the negative effects of antibiotic pollution on water bodies, various proactive measures have been employed in the past. It is impossible to effectively eliminate antibiotic depositions from wastewater using conventional treatment methods. Therefore, integrating nature-based approaches with innovative technologies offers a holistic and sustainable strategy for addressing antibiotic pollution. In the present chapter, we explore various strategies to attenuate antibiotic pollution and resistance genes, and the implementation of novel ecofriendly approaches that contribute to mitigating the adverse effects of environmental antibiotic contamination.
