Next-Gen AI Climate Models Revolutionizing Agricultural Inputs and Boosting Biodiversity
Abstract
Chapter 6 examines how next-generation, climate-aware AI models can reshape agricultural-input markets while advancing biodiversity goals. It begins by connecting sustainability metrics and Scope 3 emissions to the economic realities of fertilizer production and use—highlighting how pricing dynamics ultimately dictate grower and supplier behavior. The chapter then tackles the data-integration challenge, unifying fragmented commodity quotes, currency indices, and energy benchmarks into an analytics-ready foundation. Building on this corpus, it develops an end-to-end urea-pricing pipeline—ingesting pink-sheet and USDA datasets, blending them with oil and dollar-index series, exploring autocorrelation, and training a Vector Autoregression (VAR) model to forecast price volatility and uncover causal links through Granger causality tests. The framework is extended to ammonia and specialty fertilizers, illustrating how AI can anticipate carbon-cost pass-through and guide biodiversity-friendly nutrient management strategies. By the conclusion, readers will have both the conceptual understanding and the practical tools to transform climate and market data into actionable pricing intelligence that drives sustainable, economically resilient agriculture.
