Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a crucial tool for developing progressive, productive, and environmentally friendly urban areas. Through the integration of Internet of Things (IoT), big data (BD), and cloud computing (CC), AI’s sophisticated algorithms can learn and predict outcomes to enhance traffic flow, energy management, waste management, environmental monitoring, and public safety. The integration of AI in sustainable city development promotes the concept of algorithmic urbanism, which is closely tied to the smart cities initiative introduced by International Business Machine (IBM) in 2008. Smart cities aim to tackle the challenges of urbanization by creating efficient and growth-oriented urban environments. These cities utilize digital infrastructure and emerging technologies, with sensors monitoring various aspects of urban life such as traffic, pollution, energy, climate, and water. These sensors report data through the IoT, creating a dynamic cyber-physical space where cities evolve in response to the activities of their inhabitants, supported by data mining (DM). The deployment of AI and satellite technology offers transformative opportunities for promoting sustainable urban development. These technologies enable advanced urban planning, environmental monitoring, smart infrastructure management, disaster resilience, optimized transportation, public safety, urban agriculture, and enhanced citizen engagement. This chapter is divided into multiple sections, Section 4.1 of which provides an introduction or background on the role of AI and satellites in promoting sustainable cities in. Section 4.2 examines the evolution of AI, branches, and applications. Section 4.3 provides a full discussion of IoT. Section 4.4 hyphenates or fuses the concepts of AI, IoT, and sustainable cities, utilizing previous research as supporting resources. While the last section of the study highlighted the final conclusion of the chapter.
