Abstract

Water played a pivotal role in the origin of life on Earth. As we know, carbon-based life thrives on the requirement of water, and liquid water is essential for critical prebiotic reactions ( Westall and Brack, 2018 ). Water is a special molecule with anomalous properties. Water is colourless, transparent, and tasteless. It has many odd, counterintuitive qualities that are thought to be essential to life ( Lynden-Bell et al., 2010 ). The special properties of water, such as its polarity, density properties, high heat capacity and specific heat, amphoteric nature, and solvation ability, qualify it as the strangest liquid in the universe. These properties also render it highly susceptible to pollution and influence the transport and transformation of pollutants on the planet.
