Abstract

This chapter explores how big data analytics can transform ecological protection by enabling real-time, large-scale ecosystem monitoring and management. Traditional methods struggle to cope with the increasing environmental challenges posed by urbanization and climate change. By integrating data from remote sensing, environmental sensors, imagery, and social networks, big data provides timely and in-depth insights into ecosystem conditions and changes. Advanced algorithms, including machine learning and AI, help detect early signs of ecological threats. Predictive analytics play a key role in anticipating environmental risks and enabling proactive solutions. However, the integration of big data poses challenges, including privacy concerns, unequal technology access, and the need for standardized data governance. To ensure equitable and ethical use, the chapter advocates for inclusive, transparent, and accessible data platforms. Ultimately, big data can significantly advance global sustainability efforts and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
