Intelligent light population management
Abstract
Advancements in technology and the rapid pace of urbanization have introduced numerous challenges related to energy resource utilization and environmental sustainability. Among these, energy conservation remains a critical objective for any proposed smart system. In the realm of outdoor illumination, beyond adopting energy-efficient bulbs, the implementation of appropriate techniques and methods is essential. Moreover, the integration of intelligent systems equipped with automated control mechanisms is imperative. Inadequate outdoor lighting practices contribute to excessive energy consumption, light pollution, and increased carbon dioxide emissions. These issues negatively impact both the emotional and physical health of humans, as well as the well-being of other living organisms and the broader environment. As a result, intelligent outdoor lighting solutions offer an essential means of mitigating the adverse effects associated with improper illumination. This study explores the essential requirements for effective outdoor lighting, the challenges posed by light pollution, and how smart cities can help mitigate these issues. It places particular focus on smart outdoor lighting systems as integral components of the smart city framework. Emphasizing their importance, the study highlights the role of these systems in promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability by enhancing the performance and management of street lighting.
