Abstract

Phytopharmaceutical research is rapidly expanding due to the global interest in natural products. The bioactive phytochemicals have shown favorable outcomes in alleviating chronic diseases, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, and respiratory problems. Phytopharmaceuticals, being an integration of traditional knowledge combined with modern scientific innovation, are gaining recognition worldwide, further mandating the adoption of ethical bioprospecting processes, preservation of biodiversity, and ensuring adequate accessibility for future development . This chapter describes a recent advancements within a wide range of phytomedicine, with a primary focus on the discovery, extraction, and application of bioactive phytocompounds. In recent years, some of the breakthrough techniques, such as high-throughput screening (HTS), omics technology, and artificial intelligence (AI), have come into the picture and have been employed to accelerate the identification, standardization, quality control, development, and regulatory compliance of novel phytomedicines to ensure their safety and efficacy. This chapter also discusses futuristic advancements in nanotechnology strategies to overcome the limitations of phytocomponents, such as poor bioavailability, instability, and toxicity, thereby maximizing their therapeutic effects and highlighting the importance of phytopharmaceutical research in shaping the future of healthcare.
