Anthraquinone-Based Redox Polymers for Organic Batteries
Abstract
Anthraquinone-based redox polymers have emerged as promising materials for next-generation energy storage systems due to their tunable electrochemical properties, high theoretical capacity, and structural versatility. These polymers integrate the redox activity of anthraquinone moieties with the processability and stability of polymeric backbones, enabling efficient charge storage and transport. This chapter explores the design strategies, synthesis approaches, and electrochemical performance of anthraquinone-based redox polymers in various energy storage devices, including batteries and redox flow cells. Particular attention is given to their redox kinetics, cycling stability, solubility suppression, and compatibility with aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes. Challenges such as limited conductivity, capacity fading, and scalability are discussed alongside recent advances aimed at addressing these issues. Overall, anthraquinone-functionalized polymers represent a versatile and sustainable platform for high-performance, organic-based energy storage solutions.
