Plants in the Biogenic Synthesis of Medicinally Significant Silver Nanoparticles
Abstract
As awareness of the need for environmental sustainability continues to increase, the importance of greenly synthesized nanoparticles (NPs) has begun to receive particular attention. Physical and chemical methods synthesize most NPs. Chemically treated NPs, like chemicals, are used as reducing agents, which cause toxicity and hazardous effects that harm the environment. So, nowadays, environmentally friendly greenly synthesized NPs have evolved. Among the various metal NPs, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit significant properties. AgNPs contain varied properties, making them promise widespread use in biomedicine and other fields. The hypothesis of green chemistry has been distributed over the last two decades, and researchers have been developing green and efficient techniques for producing NPs. Therefore, biological products like greenly synthesized AgNPs obtained in the form of extracts from plants that have proven to be the best in terms of medical and physical methods, are constantly emerging to fill the gap. Greenly synthesized AgNPs have been widely used in biomedical fields because of their intrinsic therapeutic properties. This chapter focuses on new research on greenly synthesized AgNPs, with an emphasis on the role of medicinal plants. Potential uses of biosynthesized medical plant-derived AgNPs and their cytotoxic, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities are discussed. Finally, their future perspectives and limitations are mentioned in biosynthesized AgNPs.
