Issues and challenges

The Metaverse, termed “the next generation of internet,” is the three-dimensional (3D) virtual space that intermingles with real-world entities in the form of avatars to interact ubiquitously with other entities, applications, and services offered. The benefits of Metaverse are leveraged using various applications that have been developed or are being developed. Integration of all these universally accessible applications and services allows the user to experience whatever is imagined as immersive realism. The progression of this charismatic virtual world depends primarily on the interoperability, scalability, and pervasiveness of access and identity. Built upon by merging various recent technologies, Metaverse also acquires vulnerabilities faced by these, and it additionally encounters a new set of threats, issues, and challenges that occur because of the assimilation of various technologies. This paper attempts to comprehend various threats, issues, challenges, and countermeasures discussed in the literature that must be tackled before the Metaverse advances toward maturity.
