2D Material-Based Flexible Photovoltaics
Abstract
A new area of study in renewable energy called 2D material-based flexible photovoltaic focuses on using two-dimensional (2D) materials to create flexible, lightweight, and effective solar cells. These substances, including black phosphorus (BP), graphene, and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), have special mechanical, optical, and electrical characteristics that make them appropriate for use in flexible solar photovoltaic systems. These are substances that are only one or a few atomic layers thick. They have tunable bandgaps, high surface area, and superior electrical conductivity, all of which are beneficial for the conversion of solar energy into electricity. 2D material-based photovoltaics (PV) are lightweight and flexible in contrast to conventional silicon-based solar cells. Because of this, they are perfect for use in wearable electronics, portable electronics, and other non-traditional surfaces. Studies have demonstrated that great power conversion efficiencies can be attained using 2D materials. They can be designed to effectively capture solar radiation across a wide spectrum and transform it into power. These materials can be included in organic, perovskite, and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), among other kinds of photovoltaic systems. Because of their adaptability, hybrid systems that include the best aspects of multiple technologies can be created. Notwithstanding their potential, issues including cost, scalability, and stability must be resolved. Research is still being done to improve these materials’ performance and durability and their synthesis and production methods. Owing to ongoing developments in material science and engineering, the area is changing quickly. The creation of flexible photovoltaic based on 2D materials has the potential to completely transform the solar energy sector by offering cost-effective, adaptable, and sustainable energy sources. In conclusion, the search for cutting-edge solar energy technology has found a potential new frontier in 2D material-based flexible PV. Researchers are opening up new avenues for creative use and more environmentally friendly energy solutions by taking advantage of the special qualities of 2D materials.
