2D Material-Based Flexible Perovskite PV Cells
Abstract
The development of sustainable energy sources lies at the core of the world’s industrial concerns and global economic, social, and environmental issues. One of the greatest challenges of the twenty-first century is the efficient conversion of solar energy into useful forms. These days, third-generation photovoltaic (PV) systems are the focus of research, with the goal being ever-higher efficiencies at affordable prices and with the least amount of pollution possible. The synthetic development of graphene opened a whole new field of fundamental and applied study in nanomaterials, enabling the design, synthesis, and characterization of hitherto undiscovered and unexpected features of two-dimensional (2D) materials. 2D materials give an outstanding illustration of how the discovery of novel material compounds and nanophases can spur unexpected and fascinating advancements in technology applications. Remarkable physicochemical outcomes have been documented in 2D materials, ranging from graphene, the initial stable 2D compound found, to the most intricate 2D crystals, known as hybrid perovskites. To meet the pressing need for alternative energy sources, this chapter describes the quick evolution of flexible perovskite PV cells (f-PPVCs), emphasizing their remarkable power conversion efficiency. Examined are the special optoelectronic qualities of perovskite materials and their innate mechanical flexibilities, which are crucial to the creation of f-PPVCs. This chapter offers succinct but inclusive insights into the evolution of f-PPVCs, highlighting their promise in the field of 2D materials-based photovoltaic technology and opening the door for their integration into a range of applications.
