2D Material-Based Flexible Fuel Cells
Abstract
The development of flexible energy devices has been completely transformed by the advent of two-dimensional (2D) materials, which present unique opportunities for the creation of effective, portable, and lightweight power solutions. A revolutionary solution to the increasing need for sustainable energy sources in wearable electronics, medical equipment, and portable power systems is provided by flexible fuel cells (FFCs) that make use of 2D materials. The integration of 2D materials, including graphene, transition metal carbides (MXenes), and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), in the production of high-performance FFCs is examined in this work. Improved electrocatalytic activity, effective ion transport, and structural stability under deformation are made possible by the outstanding characteristics of 2D materials, which include high surface area, mechanical flexibility, and superior electrical conductivity. Significant issues with traditional fuel cells, like slow reaction kinetics and structural stiffness, have been resolved by developments in the synthesis, functionalization, and scalable production processes of 2D materials. In this chapter, we have discussed the recent developments in flexible electrodes and the electrochemical performance of these materials under varied operating circumstances. Furthermore, one important factor that makes real-world applications possible is the integration of flexible substrates with 2D material-based FFCs. This study emphasizes how 2D material-based FFCs have the potential to drive the development of flexible, eco-friendly, and effective energy technologies in the future.
