Abstract

Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari), a member of the Asparagaceae family, plays an important role in Ayurvedic medicine because of its ability to prevent and treat a wide range of health concerns. It is also known as Satawar, Satamuli, and Satavari in different dialects. The plant is primarily grown at lower elevations across India. It’s a well-known medicinal plant because of its bioactive components, which include steroidal glycosides, saponins (Shatavarins I, II, III, and IV), polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids (racemosol), and vitamins. Extracts from the Shatavari plant, including roots, leaves, blossoms, and stems, have been proved to have phytopharmaceutical effects that aid in immunoadjuvant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and even COVID-19 treatment, among other systemic advantages. Pharmaceuticals made from Shatavari extract are widely used as nutraceuticals in the commercial sector. The chapter also emphasizes the systemic application of Asparagus racemosus in nanoformulation. The structural and biological variability, efficacy, and use of Asparagus in the production of stable nanoformulationsrender them a suitable option for the future development of novel, cost-effective pharmaceutically active compounds.
