Case Study on Selection of Manufacturing Techniques for Fabrication of Aircraft Components
Abstract
The aerospace industry is witnessing a transformative shift in manufacturing paradigms, driven by the demand for lightweight, high-strength, thermally resistant, and cost-efficient components. Traditional subtractive manufacturing methods are being rapidly supplemented or replaced by advanced techniques such as additive manufacturing (AM), automated fiber placement (AFP), friction stir welding (FSW), and high-speed machining (HSM). This review critically assesses these modern manufacturing technologies, focusing on their integration, material compatibility, component performance, and challenges in implementation within the aerospace sector. Emphasis is placed on high-performance alloys, composite integration, digitalization, and sustainability in manufacturing workflows.
