Abstract

Chronic disorders continue to pose a significant risk to global health, emphasizing the necessity for innovative approaches to prevention and therapy. Recent investigations have revealed the nutritional benefits and functional properties of edible mushrooms, particularly highlighting mushroom-sourced polyphenolic compounds. These bioactive molecules have shown potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, which are highly relevant to supporting human health. This chapter delivers an in-depth analysis of the types, bioaccessibility, and physiological functions of polyphenols extracted from edible fungi, spotlighting their prospective role in mitigating chronic ailments. Combining these findings with ongoing research on synergistic mechanisms and strategic dietary implementation will be vital in enhancing scientific understanding and facilitating the formulation of effective nutrition-based interventions. Ultimately, the exploration of polyphenols from edible mushrooms offers a promising direction for the development of novel preventive and therapeutic approaches against chronic diseases.
