Abstract

Novel organic-inorganic perovskite chlorides have gained significant attention over the past decades, especially with the growing interest in hybrid halide perovskites due to their immense potential in optoelectronic technologies and related device fabrication. These materials possess remarkable physical properties, including tunable bandgaps, adjustable spectral absorption, versatile electronic structures, high carrier mobility, long diffusion lengths, and visible blind UV detection, making them ideal semiconductors for various applications. This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the structure-property relationships in organic-inorganic perovskite chlorides, with emphasis on how their electronic structure influences their electronic, optoelectronic, and sensing properties. A comprehensive review of various synthesis methods used to fabricate different structures of organic-inorganic perovskite chlorides was also elaborated, with relevant advantages and challenges. Furthermore, recent advancements of organic-inorganic perovskite chlorides in different applications such as photovoltaic devices, photodetectors, field-effect transistors, light-emitting diodes, and gas sensors are thoroughly reviewed, with detailed discussions on device architecture, performance, underlying mechanisms, and stability. Lastly, the review highlights both the challenges and advantages of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite chlorides and their compounds, offering insights into future research directions.
