Abstract

This chapter explores the essential skills practitioners need when facilitating community-led decision-making in post-VUCA-related recovery situations. Operating at the intersection of ordered bureaucratic systems and the sometimes messiness of community experiences, effective practitioners must develop “chaordic confidence” to navigate a challenging middle path. Practitioners are encouraged to embrace an “art of hosting” approach characterized by presence, participation, facilitation, and co-creation. The chapter provides some practical guidance for supporting community-led decision-making. By respecting community local leaders, ensuring inclusive processes, and maintaining transparency about constraints, practitioners can foster sustainable recovery processes that honor community self-determination while delivering meaningful outcomes.
