Abstract

This chapter presents the toxicity of residues of several classes of drugs used to treat domestic animals, especially antibiotics, which can promote multidrug resistance, cancer, disruption of normal intestinal flora, and so forth in humans. A particular toxicological concern is the highly toxic chloramphenicol (CAP), which causes aplastic anemia, bone marrow suppression, and liver damage. The adverse effects of other animal drugs such as hormones, coccidiostats, anthelmintics, and β -agonists are also discussed.
