Vitamins
Abstract
This chapter gives an overview of toxicity of vitamins, low-molecular-weight exogenous substances that are required as cofactors for various enzymes. Humans are auxotrophic of most vitamins that are divided into fat-soluble and water-soluble compounds. Hypervitaminoses, caused by vitamin overdoses, are rare, but their incidence is constantly increasing in the developed countries due to the popularity of various vitamin supplements. Problematic are also hypovitaminoses, when there is shortage of one or another vitamin in the organism.
