Abstract

The terahertz (THz) range provides specific information about the biological matter under study and complements the other spectral ranges well. The chapter describes the peculiarities of THz radiation interaction with biological molecules, fluids, and tissues. The modern methods of THz spectroscopy are also presented. The dielectric constant model applied to the analysis of body fluids and tissues is discussed. Special attention is paid to blood analysis by terahertz pulse spectroscopy for the diagnosis of diseases. Applications of machine learning methods to the analysis of THz spectroscopy data are discussed.
