Leveraging Quantum Dot Probes for High-Resolution and Multiplexed Microscopy
Abstract
Quantum dot (QD) microscopy stands as a transformative imaging technique that allows for detailed and multiplexed long-term observation of biological systems. QDs have become indispensable tools in biological imaging due to their distinct photophysical characteristics, including exceptional photostability alongside size-dependent emission spectra and broad absorption coupled with narrow emission profiles. The examination of QD-based imaging principles is given in this chapter through its detailed treatment of synthesis methods alongside surface modification and bioconjugation techniques essential for targeted imaging applications. A detailed examination of QD integration into fluorescence microscopy and super-resolution imaging techniques explores its use in multiplexed detection for cellular labeling and cancer diagnostics alongside real-time biomolecule tracking. Moreover, the examination of recent scientific progress alongside existing barriers includes toxicity issues and difficulties in clinical application. QD microscopy emerges as a transformative tool that defines future directions in biomedical research and diagnostic methodologies.
