Abstract

Renewable energy sources and technologies can be significant in solving the long-term energy challenges associated with developing countries. For India, the primary focus will be on renewable sources such as wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, biomass energy, and fuel cell technology that will help in generating power. To meet the ever-increasing energy needs of such a fast-growing economy, 3–4 times the total energy being consumed has to be replenished continuously. This is where renewable energy comes in – a major route forward. Today, renewable energy accounts for nearly 33% of India’s primary energy consumption. India is quickly embracing responsible renewable energy technologies and proactively reducing carbon emissions, cleaning the air, and pursuing a sustainable future. India has been actively involved in the last two and a half decades in research, development, demonstration, production, and applications of renewable energy technologies across different sectors.
