Abstract

This chapter evaluates and compares Conventional Direct Power Control (C-DPC) and Fuzzy Direct Power Control (F-DPC) in the context of regulating a variable-speed wind energy conversion system (VSWECS) using a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Both control methodologies are implemented on the Rotor Side Converter (RSC) and Grid Side Converter (GSC). The RSC determines optimal voltage vectors based on the instantaneous discrepancies between reference and estimated active and reactive power values and the rotor flux position. In contrast, the GSC utilizes DPC informed by grid voltage positioning to ensure consistent DC voltage levels. The introduced F-DPC methodology reduces the power ripples commonly associated with conventional DPC. Simulation results confirm the robustness of the recommended control strategy.
