Abstract

The following chapter describes the Artificial Intelligence adoption in Smart Cities, considering regional differences: Central Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America. Each of these approaches to integrating AI represents one socio-economic, political, and technological context that shows the respective level of adoption in each region. AI adoptions in Central Europe are highly driven for sustainability goals with high data privacy regulations and collaboration within the public sector. North America will drive mainly innovation and scalability through the private sector amidst huge ethical issues in data privacy and surveillance. Quickly urbanizing Asia is embracing top-down, government-driven initiatives of AI to solve most of the challenges there. Latin America also faces financial and infrastructural barriers, while there is an ever-growing adoption of AI in practical urban issues with high premiums on social inclusivity. In this chapter, the various ways in which cities take different approaches to using AI for the betterment of their citizens’ lives and at urban sustainability will be portrayed .
