Future Prospects
Abstract
The chapter provides a hint of what the future of AI in cities should look and feel like: ethics, collaboration of actors, and a vision for a diverse, inclusive, sustainable city. Ethical issues to consider are the protection of privacy, transparency, accountability, and social equity. Hence, the emphasis on personal data protection and the approach toward algorithmic bias. The chapter identifies active and collaborative contributions by governments, private enterprises, academia, and local communities as highly valued for effective deployment and innovation in building trust in AI among the general public. It furthers the discussion on how AI contributes toward sustainable solutions, optimizes resource management, creates accessibility to public services, and provides safety measures, placing special emphasis on the issues of including marginal groups into the social mainstream by using AI-powered transport, health, and educational systems. Therefore, the authors are calling for a multidimensional approach to the implementation of AI—balancing technological advancements against social considerations in the building and construction of cities that are equitable, robust, and citizen-friendly. It calls for regulatory frameworks that would ensure the making available of AI technologies in a transparent manner, are accountable, and are equitably distributed for the responsible and inclusive evolution of urban environments .
