Abstract

This chapter focuses on the application of AI in a smart environment. It presents different solutions for different environmental monitoring and pollution control. These solutions are both theoretically described in literature and applied in practice in Smart Cities. Subsequently, the chapter discusses different methods and tools for optimizing energy consumption. AI is being used specifically for energy monitoring, smart lighting and HVAC systems, noise and emissions monitoring, air and water quality prediction, and more. Smart waste management is also presented with specific examples. Some examples show the integration of AI with IoT and machine learning for real-time data processing, predictive analytics, and system optimization. Additionally, the chapter discusses the role of AI in enhancing climate resilience due to early warning systems and infrastructure planning. This chapter also shows the practical benefits of using AI in a smart environment .
