Transport properties
Abstract
We now present some of the basic properties of semiconducting materials resulting from the characteristics presented in the previous chapter and which are core aspects of this class of materials: the existence of a gap of forbidden energies and the huge impact of tiny concentrations of impurities and/or defects on the concentration of charge carriers. The presence of the bandgap strongly affects the optical properties and the concentration of charge carriers due to impurities and defects strongly impacts the transport properties. We therefore limit the analysis of semiconductor properties to these two important categories. In this chapter we will focus on the transport properties.
