Optical properties
Abstract
The presence of the bandgap, as well as of various levels of impurities and/or defects, are fundamental elements of the optical properties of semiconductors and the source of numerous applications. In this chapter we will present some essential aspects of the optical properties of semiconductors. We will focus especially on the absorption coefficient and on the recombination effects of charge carriers, both interband and mediated by levels of defects/impurities located in the bandgap.
