An Introduction to Intelligent Systems in Solid-State Electronics and Communications Engineering
Abstract
Intelligent systems in electronics and communications engineering refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) in generating and/or optimizing electronics and communication system responses. The aim is to make smarter devices and systems with automatic functionalities. Microelectromechanical systems and smart sensors use AI/ML/DL for data processing and real-time decision-making. Intelligent systems in solid-state electronics include the modeling of semiconductor devices using AI, such as predicting the characteristics of solid-state electronic devices like transistors and MOSFETs. It is used for the design and testing of very-large-scale integrated (VLSI) systems. Electronic design automation (EDA) tools are used for circuit layout design and ML is used for detection of faults during the manufacturing process. Integrated circuits can use AI for fault detection and automatic reconfiguration and neural processing. ML can be used for fault prediction purposes. AI is also used in neuromorphic computing and healthcare applications. In neuromorphic computing, AI emulates the structure of human brain in computing devices. AI is used for real-time information processing using ultra-low power. Also, AI can be used for designing and optimizing system responses of various microwave components like antennas, filters, and coupler designs.
