Abstract

Remote sensing has become a centerpiece of modern geospatial analysis, and it allows a systematic monitoring of the earth, atmosphere, and oceanic realms. As sensing technologies have grown exponentially, data volumes have not only grown to scales never before seen, but the rate at which this data is acquired is growing rapidly as well. NASA Earth Science Data Systems has reported finding over 59 petabytes of Earth observation data within the Earthdata Cloud as of September 2021. All this heterogeneous data brings the imperative of stringent data preprocessing methods, such as sensor calibration, radiometric correction, and noise reduction, to the fidelity of analysis and viability of operation.
