Abstract

In this chapter, we take a look at how audio effects are used in production. We first look at the main devices that host the audio effects that we have covered and that are used in recording, editing, and mixing audio. These include analogue and digital mixing consoles, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and sequencers. The architecture and functionality of these devices is described. Special attention is paid to how signals are routed for dealing with multitrack audio production tasks. We then proceed to a discussion of how audio effects can be used with these devices, and how they can be ordered, modified, or combined to create new effects or achieve various production goals.
