Abstract

The automotive sector is facing tremendous pressure to use environment-friendly sustainable materials. Natural fibre composites are one of the lightweight options available for the automotive sector for providing a sustainable solution for electric vehicles. There are multiple challenges and drawbacks with these materials. This chapter elucidates the sustainability, eco-friendliness, improvement of properties with chemical treatment, some of the solutions for different applications in the automotive sector, and economical perspective. The properties of natural fibre composites are compared with glass fibre composites which can be used in automotive applications for replacing the existing materials. Finally, conclusions and recommendations are drawn to assist researchers and industry with future research directions.
