Abstract

The demand for green energy sources is growing along with the increasing population. That urges the growth of potential and multiuse catalysts that play a crucial part. Perovskites have emerged as potential green catalysts for advanced energy storage approaches, especially in next-generation photovoltaics and electrochemical technologies. Their unique properties, including tunable band gaps and high ionic conductivity, electron mobility, catalytic activity and ferroelectric nature, good cycling stability, mechanical stability (during charge or discharge), easy optimization, and notable charge storage capacity, make them ideal candidates for enhancing battery performance based on energy density, efficiency, and stability. This chapter surveys the innovations and breakthroughs in the developments and applications of perovskite materials in next-generation battery (including lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and solid-state batteries) technologies. Also, structural engineering, surface modification, and integrating hybrid perovskites-related factors are discussed in the context of improving electrochemical performance and extending battery lifespan. Despite the potential activity, perovskite-based batteries face several challenges, including material degradation, toxicity, environmental stability, defect formation, cost, and scalability. Further, this chapter delivers a comprehensive outline of current research trends, critical challenges, and future perspectives of perovskite materials utilization to meet the growing demands for high-performance and sustainable energy solutions.
