Abstract

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are revolutionizing material processing by improving efficiency, quality, and precision. This chapter explores how AI and ML optimize processing techniques such as casting, welding, machining, and additive manufacturing. These technologies help address challenges like high resource consumption, inconsistent quality, and complex operational parameters by enabling predictive modeling and real-time process control. AI-driven analytics enhance material property predictions, ensuring better control over hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance. Case studies demonstrate the use of deep learning in predictive maintenance and reinforcement learning for adaptive process control. Additionally, the integration of AI with the Internet of Things (IoT) in smart manufacturing allows for predictive analytics, reducing equipment failures and process inefficiencies. By examining real-world applications and recent advancements, this chapter highlights how AI and ML can minimize costs, reduce waste, and improve sustainability. It provides researchers and industry professionals with insights into how data-driven approaches are transforming material processing, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable manufacturing solutions.
