Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss some of the important classes of polynomials, which we lump together under the heading “Special Functions”. First, though, we will briefly look at an important example of the Taylor Expansion which, if you have not already studied it, you will at some point in the physics curriculum. This special case is referred to as a binomial expansion and is very important. We will use binomial expansions in our discussion of the special functions that we will cover in this chapter. Note that for all of the math we discuss in this chapter, we will focus on “how to use” rather than derivations.
