Pre-Departure Planning
Abstract
Moving abroad is often seen as an exciting fresh start, but what many forget in the whirlwind of planning is the most important part of the journey: themselves. In this chapter, I explore the emotional, mental, and energetic dimensions of relocation that are too often overlooked in favor of logistics. Drawing on my experience as an immigration consultant turned certified travel coach and life coach, I share personal stories and client insights that reveal why a successful move depends not only on external preparation, but on inner readiness. Through a practical and reflective three-step framework – centered around finding your “why,” tuning into your body, and building a personal support toolkit – this chapter invites readers to come home to themselves before, during, and after their move. With warmth and honesty, it offers guidance for anyone ready to unpack internal baggage, navigate the in-between with grace, and create a fulfilling life abroad from the inside out.
