Abstract

This chapter documents the highly personal and life-changing journey of a Haitian-American woman who transformed her life and profession through travel, business, and expatriation to the USA. Merging memoir with how-to advice, the chapter examines the topics of identity, resilience, and economic empowerment for women who are globally mobile. The story follows how early money, cultural, and immigration lessons defined her vocation. Her overseas experiences—characterized by freedom and isolation—disclose the intimate complexities of existence as a Black woman traveler, and online business owner. The chapter focuses on how learning financial systems, especially U.S. taxation for expats and repats, can free up opportunities instead of constricting them. With personal stories and client success, it showcases the specific obstacles women encounter in creating globally mobile lives, from security issues to bureaucratic obstacles, while honoring their resilience and resourcefulness. In the end, this is a tale of inspiration and real-world savvy: that taking back control over money and decision-making is the way to plan a life of security, joy, and authenticity. And it challenges readers—particularly internationally conscious women—to redefine success on their own terms and find the liberation in being armed with knowledge about how to make smart financial choices.
