Abstract

This chapter explores the critical role of professionals as both potential accelerators and potential obstacles in the digital transformation of their fields. As digital disruption challenges traditional practices and digital transformation enables redefinition of value creation, professionals must actively adapt in order to maintain relevance, trust, and legitimacy. The chapter examines how professionals influence the direction and pace of change through their decisions, behaviors, and willingness to embrace innovation. It identifies current shortcomings in professional engagement with digital transformation and outlines the mindset shifts, competence changes, and ethical reflexivity required to support meaningful progress. Practical strategies are presented to help professionals to play an active and constructive role in advancing the digital transformation of their work and of their profession. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of how professionals themselves can act as agents of change, ensuring their professions thrive rather than fall behind and risk becoming irrelevant in the face of technological change.
