Abstract

This chapter examines how digital disruption and transformation are reshaping the teaching profession, one of the most visible and consequential areas of societal change. Once dominated by face-to-face instruction, teaching has been redefined by rapid technological advances, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the accelerated shift to online and hybrid models during the COVID-19 pandemic, and by large language learning models and agentic artificial intelligence platforms. The chapter explores both the opportunities and challenges of this transformation, from enhanced teaching effectiveness and new modes of engagement to digital literacy gaps, unequal access, and pedagogical strain. It unpacks how infrastructural inequalities and heightened demands for personalized, interactive learning experiences are forcing educators to cultivate advanced digital technology competencies and adaptive pedagogical approaches. Readers will gain insight into the current state of digital education, the structural and leadership challenges that must be addressed, the strategic steps required to shape the future of teaching in a digital tech-rich future, and the profession&s;s progress on these fronts.
